• A lonely tree, in the desert, standing up to the sun : the tree as an image of man
  • A tense bust
  • A head alone in the sky

Stone or metal hardness, dents, cracks, wounds, shadowy areas and always the sky’s expanse.

All through these images, I tried to express some of the underlying fixations of my paintings.

  • A fascination for the vital stamina of the solar man who with his breadth tries to capture as much life as possible and also his need to fight, to make a stand in confrontation with the sun … with death : “the sun and death are the only two things that cannot be confronted” F. Mauriac
  • A fascination for the sky, too large, too pristine, elusive, heart-rending and, at the same time, the need to also paint ragged skies, perhaps because they hold a substance one can cling to.
